--------
It has been 500 years since the historical event of the 'World Regeneration', when the two separated worlds of Sylvarant and Tethe'alla have become one. However, although they were supposedly destroyed by the Chosen and her allies, the organization known as "Cruxis" has returned. These powerful, angelic beings seek to wreak vengeance on all of human- and elven-kind for their defeat 500 years ago.
An organization of powerful masters of the use of magic have formed to oppose these violent beings, and restore peace to the land of Aselia. This organization is known as the 'Guardians of Symphonia'.
Their goal is to destroy and seal away the Cruxis 'angels' once and for all, a feat which seems hopeless.
However, the Guardians now have the Summon Spirits, including the Monster Lord, Ratatosk, fighting on their side. Many begin to form pacts with the Centurions under Ratatosk's command, gaining power from these creatures and the 'Demon Lord' himself.
A war is on the rise; a war between the angels of Cruxis, and the Guardians of Symphonia. Which side will win?
What is Cruxis, and what was the World Regeneration?
---------
Past
Cruxis angels were half-elves evolved by special Exspheres called Cruxis Crystals. The Desians, an antagonist organization primarily consisting of half-elves, were also part of Cruxis. The entire organization was masterminded by Mithos, hero of the Ancient Kharlan War. Serving under his surname, Yggdrasill, Mithos used Cruxis Crystals to transform himself and his allies into angels. Then, using the Eternal Sword, a gift to him from Origin, the King of Summon Spirits, he split the world into two, bipolar parts: Sylvarant and Tethe'alla. This was part of an attempt to resurrect his dead sister, Martel Yggdrasill, whose soul was sustained only by using a Cruxis Crystal to bind it to the Great Seed. The Seed had once been the Giant Kharlan Tree, source of all mana, but the Kharlan War caused it to wither and die.
If Martel awakened, the Great Seed would be absorbed into her and disappear. The reverse also holds true. In order to prevent that from happening, Yggdrasill protected the Great Seed with the seals of the Summon Spirits by creating four Mana Links in order to prevent the Great Seed from germinating. By controlling the flourishing and declining cycle upon Sylvarant and Tethe'alla, Cruxis saught to prevent evolution of magitechnology upon the the worlds and, more importantly, to create the necessary conditions of a vessel for the revival of Martel. Noticing Mithos's evil deeds, an underground resistance dedicated to fighting Cruxis and the Desians known as the Renegades strived to halt the organizations' objectives.
Due to the instability of mana between the two worlds, one world flourished while the other declined. Every so often, a Chosen One of the mana lineage is born. The Chosen would set upon a Journey of Regeneration, and would become a true angel at the Tower of Salvation, the symbol of the world regeneration. This served two purposes: to reverse the mana flow of the worlds and find a host body for Martel. Mithos also strived to eliminate discrimination against half-elves in the two worlds. Through the power of Exspheres, he hoped to eliminate the different bloods that flow within elves and humans, thus turning every person in the world in the same lifeless beings. He did not care that millions have to be sacrificed to achieve this, as the only thing that matters is that everyone becomes the same, thus they could not discriminate against each other for being different. For this to happen, he set up the Desians, who mass-produce Expheres in their Human Ranches.
The leaders of Cruxis were the Four Seraphim, composed of Mithos and his former companions. Their base was set on Derris-Kharlan, a great planet of mana and home world of the elves. It was situated directly above Sylvarant and Tethe'alla, but had remained hidden for millennia due to the protective barrier projected from the Tower of Salvation. The only route to Derris-Kharlan was through the Tower of Salvation, which appears in the flourishing world and the declining world at the beginning of the Journey of Regeneration. Angels primarily resided in the holy city, Welgaia. Mithos himself took residence in his private castle, Vinheim.
Cruxis was eventually defeated by the Chosen of Regeneration, Colette Brunel, and her allies, 500 years ago. The death of Mithos caused the two worlds of Sylvarant and Tethe'alla to become one again, as separate regions of one larger world, Aselia.
Present
Cruxis has now somehow returned, as Mithos' soul had been sealed inside of his Cruxis Crystal for 500 years, undestroyed. Over the years, he began to become more powerful, and was able to take hold of a physical body once more. Hiding away, he began the resurrection of many of his other former comrades who were killed all those years ago, reforming Cruxis. Now tossing away his old ideals, Mithos and the rest of Cruxis seek revenge on human and elven kind for their defeat, and have began to terrorize the inhabitants of the world.
What are the Guardians of Symphonia?
The Guardians of Symphonia is an organization of powerful masters of the use of magic, formed to oppose the vengeful beings of Cruxis, and restore peace to the land of Aselia.
Their goal is to destroy and seal away the Cruxis 'angels' once and for all, using the power of the Summon Spirits and Ratatosk's Centurions to aid them.
The Guardians are led by eight Centurion Masters, the leaders of the organization. Each one of the eight Centurion Masters possess one of the 'Divine 8' Centurions under their command.
Just under the rank of Centurion Master is the Commandant, of which there are two. These act as a sort of 'second in command', aiding the Centurion Masters in leadership. Each of them possess a pact with a 'Lesser' Centurion.
The rank below the Commandant is the Captain. There are four of these, each commanding their own Cohort. They too possess a pact with a Lesser Centurion.
Legionnaires are the rank below Captains, the second-in-command of their specific Cohort. They may or may not possess a Lesser Centurion.
The last rank are soldiers, the fighters of the organization. These guys make up the backbone of the Guardians, and also may or may not possess a Lesser Centurion.
There are four Cohorts of the Guardians, named simply "The First Cohort", "The Second Cohort", "The Third Cohort", and "The Fourth Cohort."
Their base of operations is near the Ginnungagap, the Otherworldly Gate.
What are Centurions?
The Centurions are animal-like beings that serve the Summon Spirit Ratatosk, and can command 'monsters'(aka any animal-like being that is not a dog, cat, or other recognized Earth animal) of their element. If you form a pact with one, you gain power from both the Centurion and Ratatosk, and as the Centurion gets more monsters under their command, the human/elf/half-elf binded to them increases in strength and skill, too.
Centurions do not typically fight on their own, and instead send monsters under their command to fight instead. However, occasionally a centurion will join in battle. But if they are defeated, they will go 'dormant' and their Centurion Core must be found. The Divine 8 have specific places in which their Cores go, but the Lesser could appear anywhere.
There are two 'races' of Centurions: The Divine 8, and the Lesser Centurions.
The Lesser Centurions are the 'newer' centurion creatures created by Ratatosk, of which the exact number is unknown. Same as the Divine 8, they each have a specific element attributed to them, and can control monster servants just as the Divine 8 do.
The Divine 8 are the eight original Centurions made to serve Ratatosk. The Divine 8 Centurions are as follows;
Tenebrae
Tenebrae is the Centurion of Darkness. In his dormant state, he is located in the Temple of Darkness, where Shadow, the Summon Spirit of Darkness, used to reside. He is most likely the most loyal to Ratatosk. Despite being serious most of the time, he comes up with terrible puns and makes spiteful comments that usually annoy or anger his allies.
Aqua
Aqua is the Centurion of Water. In her dormant state, she is located in the Temple of Water. Unlike most Centurions, she betrayed Lord Ratatosk and the other Centurions by siding with the Vanguard a long time ago. She accompanied a man called Richter Abend during her betrayal, but eventually returned to being a servant of Ratatosk. She has a strong dislike for Tenebrae and usually ends up arguing with him whenever they come into contact with each other.
Lumen
Lumen is the Centurion of Light. In his dormant state, he is located in the basement of the Tower of Mana, where Luna and Aska, the Summon Spirits of Light, used to reside. He is typically friendly and righteous, but can be a light bit arrogant. He dislikes Tenebrae, and the two will occasionally get into arguments.
Ventus
Ventus is the Centurion of Wind. In his dormant state, he resides at the Underground Ruins, underneath the stone dais in Asgard, where the fake Summon Spirit of Wind resided. He has a very calm and collected personality, and is seen as the wisest of the Divine 8.
Ignis
Ignis is the Centurion of Fire. In his dormant state, he resides in the Triet Ruins, behind the altar where the Summon Spirit of Fire, Efreet, used to reside. He has a very hot-tempered and fiery personality, and can be quite unpredictable.
Glacies
Glacies is the Centurion of Ice. In her dormant state, she is located in the Temple of Ice behind the altar of the Summon Spirit Celsius. She is kind-hearted, but also cold and doesn't show much emotion.
Tonitrus
Tonitrus is the Centurion of Lightning. In his dormant state, he resides in the Temple of Lightning, where Volt, the Summon Spirit of Lightning, used to reside. He can be aggressive and unpredictable, but is also incredibly loyal and protective of his allies.
Solum
Solum is the Centurion of Earth. In his dormant state, he resides in the Temple of Earth, where Gnome, the Summon Spirit of Earth, used to reside. He is typically calm and collected, and fiercely protective of his allies.
Who is Ratatosk?
Ratatosk is one of the few remaining Summon Spirits, known as the 'Lord of Monsters', or as some call him, 'The Demon Lord'. He is the creator and master of the Centurions. Ratatosk typically takes on two separate forms: A human, and a large squirrel with a flaming tail.
